At first, you’re full of optimism, thinking, How hard can it be? You picture the end result in your mind – sleek, functional, and maybe even Instagram-worthy. You’re confident it’ll be straightforward because the picture on the box looks so simple. But then you open the box (or officially start the business), and reality hits.

Suddenly, you’re staring at a sea of oddly shaped pieces, screws, and panels, none of which seem to match the vision in your head. The instructions? Confusing at best, completely missing at worst. Some steps seem unnecessarily complicated, while others leave you guessing, as if you’re supposed to instinctively know what part X is supposed to do.

And no matter how carefully you follow the instructions, there’s always that one screw (or decision) left over. You hold it up, stare at it for a while, and wonder, Where was this supposed to go? Is it crucial, or can I just leave it out and hope for the best?

I’ve been there (not that long ago) – staring at the scattered pieces, second-guessing every step, and questioning whether I’d ever get it right. There were moments of frustration and a fair share of What have I gotten myself into? thoughts. At times, it felt like sheer willpower (and a bit of duct tape) were the only things holding it all together.

But you know what? Over time, it started to click. Through trial and error, I figured out which pieces fit where and how to fix the wobbly bits. I learned to laugh at the inevitable setbacks and stopped worrying about that one “extra” screw. Now, I can step back and say, “Yep, I built that!” – and this time, it’s not just holding together, it’s doing quite well!

I’ve gone from the chaos of scattered parts to knowing what needs to be done (most times!). That doesn’t mean there’s never a challenge – oh there are, but bring it on! I can handle whatever comes next.

So, if you’re standing in the middle of your flat-pack chaos right now, feeling overwhelmed and wondering if it’s worth it, trust me – it is. Keep going. You’ll find your groove, and one day, you’ll look back at the mess and realise it was all part of the process.
